Happy August! I feel like we just skipped over July? The summer is going by way to fast! It’s almost over! Summer might be coming to an end but Fearless Music isn’t going anywhere! I got an exciting line up for Tuesday’s Trends and can’t wait to share them with you! Let’s get started!
Ships Have SaileD
One of my favorite things to do on Tuesday’s Trends is introduce my followers to some of my favorite artists! Today, I am bringing you an exclusive Q&A session with Ships Have Sailed! After finding this band on Twitter, I have listened to their new music nonstop! They recently released a new single “Up” and dropped an EP “Mixed Up.” Will Carpenter and Art Andranikyan are the members of this LA based band. Ships Have Sailed is really gaining attention through social media and is one to watch out for. Check out my interview with them below:
How did Ships Have Sailed get started?
"Ships Have Sailed started as a group of songs that weren't a fit for the project I (Will) was currently a part of, but at the same time, it didn't feel right thinking about someone else performing them. I started just producing the tracks on my own in my home studio and, once a couple were presentable I had a friend or two over to listen...their response was: 'Wow! So what are you going to call it?"
Where did the name "Ships Have Sailed" came from?
"As I was working on the very first group of songs that would become our 'Someday' EP, I was going through a bit of a transitional time in life. I was doing a lot of thinking about how we wind up where we 'are' at any given point in time, and I was reflecting on all the 'missed opportunities' that landed me exactly where I felt I should be. The phrase 'that ship has sailed' popped into my head, and I thought to myself "that's a bit negative, it should really be 'Ships Have Sailed'"...and that was the lightbulb - I realized it was a really cool band name, and representative of the music I was creating, and that was it!"
If you could describe "Up" in one word, what would it be?
How did you come up with remixing "Up" and creating an EP from it?
"This ties into the one-word answer above! When 'Up' first came to me, it was as an upbeat song that helped me through a very low moment. The original version is uplifting, upbeat, and I kept the production airy and light. But I kept getting this itch to really embrace the melancholy nature of the song and the moment that it was born from, so I started playing around with an idea that eventually became the 'Lo-Mix' which I was planning to release as a single. As I was working on that, I had two really talented DJs reach out to me on Twitter and request to remix the original version of 'Up', and I realized that those remixes, along with a really great one from my friend Mike Vincent, would be enough to make an EP.
Anything you would like to share with the followers about what is to come?
"We do have a few things in the works at the moment, but it's a bit early to do much more than hint! Hint: we have been in the studio recently and, although things are in the early stages, we're really excited with the sounds we're making...and also, for our friends in the U.K. and Ireland, we may just have a surprise for you before the summer's over!"
Thank you to Ships Have Sailed for the awesome opportunity to interview you guys! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this amazing band! For more information on Ships Have Sailed, check out their social media accounts below:
MTV has announcing the comeback of the popular television show Total Request Live. TRL will be a revamped version of the show from the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. For those who don’t remember TRL, the show was known for their celebrity guest host and counted down the top music videos of the day. MTV president Chris McCarthy revealed that the new TRL will premiere in October. MTV is in the middle of constructing a brand-new studio across from Time Square to replicate the original. If you read my blog, you know my love for music videos! I can’t wait to hear more about this!
